Not only a great amount of people are losing voices these days, but also a lot of them are experiencing severe pain in their throats.

Before, we had complaints, primarily from singers; but more and more, just regular people (speakers) are complaining on extreme discomfort in their vocal box in general.

The singers are usually ruining their vocal anatomy simply for the lack of education and simple knowledge; and thus, lack of the proper vocal technique. They very often end up with laryngitis, i.e., with the hoarse and raspy voice; not to mention an extreme pain in their throats. The singers (also very often) end up with the growth on their vocal cord(s); such as polyps, nodules, cysts and etc.

The regular people who do not take proper care of their voice and (in majority of times) their health in general, usually end up with muscle tension dysphonia or spasmodic dysphonia. Nevertheless, they (of course) are also susceptible to the growth on their vocal cords, but more like papilloma and polyps. They are also very susceptible to lesions in their throats, as well as burnt vocal cords due to the occurrence of acid reflux.

Unfortunately, both speakers and singers are also not exempt from vocal cord(s) paralysis/paresis.

Naturally, there is physical pain (to whichever degree for whichever vocal injury); but also, there is an emotional pain, as both speakers and singers realize that something out of the ordinary is happening to them and their voices. And, especially at the beginning of this ordeal, they feel quite lost, not knowing what to do and where to get help.

Our philosophy at The Royans Institute for Non-Surgical Voice Repair is “All Voice – No pain”!

Once we uncover and discover (in a manner of speaking) the injured voice, we (via special speech exercises, coupled with specially designed body motions) try, at all costs, to release the “trapped” voice from its vocal anatomy “prison”, (so to speak). Especially in the case of Muscle Tension Dysphonia (where neck muscles literally hold the voice in ‘contempt’), the voice, nevertheless, has to be “yanked” out of there, which is (no doubt) easier said then done.

The neck muscles are “truly in love” with the human voice and even when my client and I think that the voice is finally “flying” out of there, it is like a swamp, “calling” it and literally “pulling” it back in.

Sometimes, the recurrence of the above happens multiple times.

Once the voice is finally released from the lower throat and the neck muscles, the pain usually subsides and the sufferer feels a great release; and not only physically, but emotionally as well.

Now the human voice has to find a “new home”  – the facial muscles!

Those facial cavities will become a real saviour for anybody who had voice issues and everybody else who cares about their speaking/singing voice in general. Those (in a sense) sinus cavities will amplify the voice at least quadruple times over its volume; and naturally, will promote a proper articulation and enunciation. However, without the support of the abdominal muscles, the lift of the voice is not possible.

Therefore, the abdominal muscles have to be strengthened to be able to give a proper “launch” for the voice to “soar” to its aimed destination, provided that the sound lands within those facial muscles. At that point, the voice within the newly found facial muscles will be working in full conjunction and coordination with the abdominal muscles. The above (in turn) will minimize the use of the throat, larynx and the vocal cords.

To Conclude, there will be “All Gain and No Pain”, i.e., by osmosis, “All Voice and No Pain”, as (at that point) the vocal anatomy will be completely released from the pressure of the sound; and, in addition, nurtured with natural herbal and homeopathic remedies for its complete healing.

For at least the last 25 years, we have been specializing in extreme voice disorders such as:

  • Muscle Tension Dysphonia
  • Spasmodic Dysphonia
  • Polyps & Nodules on the vocal cords
  • Cysts & Lesions on the vocal cords and the throat
  • Acid Reflux effecting the vocal box
  •  Laryngitis
  • Sulcus Vocalis (enlarged gap between the vocal folds)
  • Strained Vocal Cords
  • Vocal Cord Paresis
  • Partially Lost Voice

– And that’s just to name a few.

Both regular speaking people and or singers could possess the above-described vocal injuries.

As strange as it sounds, the regular speaking people are taking their injuries much harder then the actual singers.

In fact, in a lot of cases, singers may still have their speaking voices somewhat intact; and therefore, it is not that detrimental for them just to lose their singing voice capacity then for speakers to completely lose their tool for communication. Of course, no matter how you slice it, speakers and singers are both greatly effected by their voice/vocal injury.

The speakers, in a lot of times, feel that their lives are over, as it is difficult for them to communicate. They often begin to learn sign language and/or rely on writing on a white board in order to be heard and understood. Moreover, they are usually, for years, have been trying different speech therapists and vocal coaches; but nevertheless, evidently, always to no avail.

I would like to quote one of our recent Non-Surgical Voice Repair Clients who had said in her Post Course Letter to us:

“It’s such a relief to have someone to go to if I have issues with my voice, as before I felt so alone and had no idea what to do, so many thanks”.

This particular person had suffered with quite significant voice loss, severe pain in the throat, and had to live with the diagnosis of Muscle Tension Dysphonia for 5 years.

This young beautiful adult was suggested to stop speaking for good, go on disability and find a job which does not require any speaking. Before she came to us, she was ready to quit University, prior quitting the high school choir and the part-time job, which had required her to speak with the customers.

Her Mom and her flew to us for over 30 hours to obtain our unique instruction and natural holistic treatment.

By the end of her 50 hour ordeal, not only was she able to speak with clear announced and pronounced voice (as her mom qualified as a radio voice), but she was also able to embark upon my regular singing exercises (designed for singers with no vocal damage) and a piece of the song “Can’t help Falling In Love” by Elvis.

That was our Triumph!!

No doubts this beautiful girl regained her speaking and even (partially) her singing voice (partially only due to the lack of time), and has already begun to reclaim her life back and will continue to do so for days to come. As far as we are concerned, one more life had been salvaged and reclaimed with very hard work – but with a very high reward in the end.

“Although it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and there were many obstacles along the way, I completed 50 hours with Diana because in the end it was worth it.“

Elle Rider of New Zealand

On that note, we would say – Way to go Girl!

The Best is Yet to Come!

Lately, for some mysterious reason, I hear more and more from people who used to be able to sing (or even professional singers with voice issues) contemplating to receive the treatment for their voice problems from speech therapists or speech pathologists…?

How logical is that?

Honestly, to me, it does not make any sense, as none of the above were ever trained how to become a singer or, nevertheless, knowing how to sing and, furthermore, how to treat singers from vocal diseases. Moreover, some of them actually suffer themselves from MTD (Muscle tension Dysphonia) or even SD (Spasmodic Dysphonia).

So their “claim to fame” is that they had (and majority of them still have) such vocal disorders themselves. They brag about it, trying to convince a potential sufferer that they know all about it, since they have been suffering from the same thing…? My question is: if they have been suffering from such disorders described above, how did they get it in the first place?

My wild guess would be that they (probably themselves) did not use the voice correctly; i.e., spoke a lot, spoke forceful and loud, had a very intense lifestyle and had no idea that all of that could effect their voice and bring it to such disorder…

If that is the case, how in the world could they help a person (especially a singer) with a voice disorder when they themselves have gotten in trouble with their voice (not knowing anything, at the time, about the consequences). And the best they could do is to pretend that nothing had happened; and if they even admitted that it had happened, they would use that occurrence to convince the potential clients (with similar vocal disorders) that they could help them. My fear is that “they will help them alright”… to enhance their disorder and not to treat it or cure it by any means.

We, on the other hand, will help the vocal disorder to be treated (or even cured, in some cases) via our revolutionary Vocal Science ™ technique combined with our customized natural herbal and homeopathic remedies.

We have also developed complete beginner singers to well-known professional recording artists, performers and winners of numerous international vocal competitions. To learn more, please refer to our extensive client list on our website: www.vocalscience.com.

We certainly hope that you come to your senses and realize that if your singing voice is out of sorts and in jeopardy to be lost for good, you will have to find a voice specialist who (nevertheless) had been a singer and educator (with extensive experience) specializing in singing voice mechanics and voice health.

For example:

Let’s suppose that an individual needs brain surgery.

Would they hire an orthopedic doctor to perform it?

Sounds funny, doesn’t it?

Indeed!!

So those speech therapists and pathologists, for that matter, presumably know something about the voice (if at all, it would be about the speaking voice), how in the world, when they never had sung a note themselves, they could help you, a singer with vocal problems…?

This is your riddle and daily digest.

Any Non-Surgical Voice Repair starts with voice/vocal, physical, mental and definitely emotional assessment.

Being a voice repair specialist for much over 3 and half decades, I could, with absolute certainty say, that all the above-indicated aspects of the human being behavior, are definitely have to be addressed.

There is no voice repair process I could start without assessing not only just the voice/vocal problem, but the shape and form of the physical body which defines, so to speak, an “instrument” and the rest of the components, such as mental and emotional, would define a “player” in this instance. The voice usually is never the cause.

The cause of the vocal disorder lies far beneath. There are a lot of factors (many of them from the deep past) that could lead to the voice issues.

Let’s take, for example, the physical aspect of it –

If the person’s diet, for the longest time, had consisted of a lot of dairy, fatty, creamy and mucous-filled foods, the voice (even without any particular damage), may sound a little hoarse and raspy. And thus the tone of the voice could change also (to a somewhat lower or unnaturally higher tone compared to how it had been sounding originally). In this case, the voice cure is quite easy. Once the diet is cleaned up, and the physical body is at least remotely exercised, the voice exponentially will become better sounding.

The other problem, which contributes to the voice issue, is the posture. A lot of clients of mine have been coming to me with slouched backs (some even with scoliosis). Due to that, they are usually standing with their pelvis sticking out (in my book – “Vocal Science – Flight to the Universe”, it is described as a “pregnant ballerina mode”).

So now visualize, my reader, that if even the best violinist who would hold his violin and his bow upside down and, on top of it, his violin would have been broken to pieces, would he be able to extract any sound from that inadequate instrument…?

Sounds pretty scary, ha? Scary indeed, but that’s the fact!

Evidently, in a case like this, the physical body is completely out of balance. So, in this instance, the mental, physical and emotional balance has to be addressed first and that is a must!

Understandably, the mental and, especially, the emotional state of such clients is also quite questionable.

Clearly, they have been through a lot before they have reached my studio/clinic. All of the imbalance and all of their fears have been definitely, very much so, present. In most cases, they have no idea why it is happening to them, unless their voice disorder was a result of the obvious accident, or careless surgical procedure. So they are naturally upset and, in many cases, depressed and are looking for a very fast and, preferably, “magical” solution. The majority of them say after the fact that it was the hardest thing that they have done in their entire life.

I, personally, agree and disagree.

If the persons mind is sound and if it does connect and correspond with their motor skills, the process becomes much easier.

Those who, in their childhood, embarked on post-curriculum activities, such as: Ballet, Gymnastics or Figure Skating for that matter, experience less problems with the above aforementioned skills.

They are accustomed to think on a parallel track with their actions (whichever ones they may be). The rest of the population, in a manor of speaking, is “playing it by ear”.

However, what all of them, independently, have in common, is definitely ‘quite disturbed’ emotions. It is also, however, quite understandable; but it is obviously a big drawback to their voice/vocal recovery.

Nevertheless, that comes with the territory.

So all of those issues, much before the vocal issue, have to be addressed first.

In other words, the “field” has to be cleared and then the voice restoration process shall begin.

In our roster, we have more and more people coming for voice repair and voice restoration, but also, actually, to “find” their voice.

We have clients who come to us and who have tried everything else, especially through the means of the Internet.

Some of those people are very computer savvy and are able to really deeply surf and navigate voice-related sites. They are trying to save money and not to travel anywhere for their voice problems and needs. And eventually, accomplishing nothing to what they were looking for, they have also managed to incur a vocal damage while at it.

One of the commercials for men’s weight loss that is running very often on our Canadian media, where the guy who promotes his system on how to efficiently lose wait for men, has a slogan, “if you could do it yourself, you would have don’t it already!”

Isn’t that that truth!

So, eventually, those “smart” individuals end up in my studio where now I have to find the lost voice, discover it and uncover it, restore it and channel it through the right facial and body muscles and cavities.

What do I mean by channeling the voice through different muscles and cavities?

I mean that the voice has to be supported, structured, placed and projected to its aimed destination, utilizing certain facial and body cavities.

Via special speech and singing exercises, coupled with certain body movements, I am able to access designated muscles and cavities and channel the damaged, low positioned voice in such a way that that sound becomes, at least, quadruple times amplified.

The range increases exponentially, and mainly, the pitch in this equation becomes correct, as the alignment between the subconscious and conscious mind has been achieved.

In some more severe voice repair cases, this approach is extremely crucial, as the main agenda is to relieve the vocal box from the pressure of the sound and then, by applying natural herbal and homeopathic remedies, heal the throat flora and vocal box as a whole.

So save yourself time and aggravation (nevertheless, your voice) and don’t attempted to do something on your own, which requires many years of experience and expertise.

.     Voice and Vocal Disorders Treatment

·     Post Voice/Vocal Restoration and Coaching

·     Mild Voice/Vocal Diseases Cure

We treat and cure most vocaldiseases and disorders. Most disorders are treatable and some of them are even curable. With our Vocal Science Trademarked technique and employment of the, specifically selected, natural herbal and homeopathic remedies, we are able to achieve results like no other!

How it is done:

The Vocal Science technique has been developed by the world renowned vocal coach, consultant and non-surgical voice repair specialist, Diana Yampolsky.

By utilizing the components of the Vocal Science method, Diana became capable to save the damaged vocal anatomy and restore the speaking and/or singing voice back to normal and beyond.

Using, (developed by Diana), speech and singing exercises, coupled with the certain body movements, she became capable of achieving the voice lift off of the vocal box and off of the vocal cords.

The voice, now got restructured to the different set of muscles, (facial cavities) and thus, get amplified 4 to 5 times its original volume. So for those who are suffering with low voiceprojection due to vocal injury, it is a savior. But the condition of it is that those facial cavities must work in full conjunction and coordination with the lower and upper abdominal muscles.

The latter is very important, as the lower abdominal muscles are responsible for the height of the sound which after the lift of the voice should be traveling 360 degrees above the person’s actual height.  The upper diaphragm muscles, (rib cage), responsible for the width, (body of the sound). As the sound travels in a circular direction (as any physical material body does) relatively, respectively and prospectively to the height and the width of the body, the circumference of the circle must be totally fulfilled.

Otherwise, the sound will be “tiny and skinny” and thus, no “fullness” of the voice will come out on the surface and thus, the projection of the full, healthy voice will be diminished.

How we treat and cure voice and vocal disorders:

We advocate specially selected, natural herbs and remedies, which are designed to strengthen the vocal box and vocal cords in particular.

They also aid to the cleanliness of the overall vocal anatomy. They help to get rid of all of the impurities like gastric acid and mucus. They also help to lubricate the vocal cords and larynx and keep the “vocal machine strong, oiled and lubed”, so to speak.

Once the voice is lifted, structured, placed and projected, those natural herbs and remedies become double effective, as now, the voice is not mixed in with the vocal anatomy and allows the space (within the vocal anatomy) for the healing and cure.

For the certain and some specific voice/vocal disorders, we also use homeopathic remedies, especially for the vocal diseases which are of viral nature; such as polyps and specific types of papilloma.

Please note: Some vocal disorders can be vastly improved with the Vocal Science™ technique and natural herbal and homeopathic treatment, but may not necessarily be cured.

The latter include severe forms of spasmodicdysphonia, some forms of complete vocal paralysis and some severe forms of throat cancer, especially if the patient has undergone numerous radiation treatments.

After the non-surgical voice repair and voice/vocal treatment is complete, the voice/vocal coaching begins. The voice repair client then becomes a voice/vocal student and learns how to speak/sing professionally not only complying with the standards of professional speaking /singing, but also assuring the safety and unlimited length of their found-again voice.

  • REALIZE
  • REVIEW
  • RELIEF
  • RE-BUILD

More and more people seem to be suffering from one or another cause of vocal damage. There are different symptoms and, of course, different causes. So the very first stage for the person with some kind of voice issue is to “Realize” that it is actually present. Something definitely changed in their voice quality, speaking and/or singing.

In the majority of cases the voice became raspy and hoarse, flat and dull. However, some people are totally in denial of it. Nevertheless, they feel a change in their voice quality anddelivery, but they would not admit it even to themselves. Then comes the time when the sufferers start self-analysis and begin to “Review” and analyze when and how the voice started subsiding and disappearing on them.

Next stage, they are looking for the “Relief” of their voice condition, as sometimes they have pain and discomfort in their throat, pain in their neck and shoulders, gastric acid reflux up their throat, as their voice has been drawn so low in its position that it meets gastric acid and the vocal cords could easily get burned quite significantly.

So the latter is the main part, as the person with all the symptoms actually has to find the cause of these conditions in order to outline the best course of action on how to approach their treatment. Once the cause is established, hopefully the cure will be on its way. Now the affected person has to choose the least invasive and the most productive course of action towards their condition. Some people want a magic pill, others run to get their polyps or nodules removed quickly, but some (with most analytical minds) will do a heavy duty research, will first choose a non-surgical approach to their voice disorder.

There is a saying, “Good things come to those who wait.”

It is true, but don’t wait forever, and stay in balance, as, if you are waiting too, too, long towards fixing your voice condition, it also might be too late to do it non-surgically and non-invasively. So now, after heavy duty research and studying, begin to “Re-build” your speaking and/or singing voice. Learn the right application of your voice and acquire a wholesome mechanism, so to speak, which will allow your voice to work in the fullest capacity possible, but with no pain or strain on your vocal anatomy. Utilize your facial and abdominal muscles and use them generously to produce the sound.

In this instance, your vocal box will be released from the pressure of the sound and thus be resting most of the time preserving your vocal anatomy for your lifetime. “All of the above is quite simple, but not easy at all.” One of my clients exclaimed.

Indeed!!!

“RRRR……”
